Texting and driving has to be put to an end. "More than half (53%) of all adult cellphone owners have been on the giving or receiving end of a distracted walking encounter, according to a Pew Research study."
Fact: "Drivers in their 20s are 24 percent of drivers in all fatal crashes, but are 27 percent of the distracted drivers and 33 percent of the distracted drivers that were using cell phones in fatal crashes."
Fact: "Nine percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the crashes."
Fact: "Distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America’s roadways. In 2015, there were 3,477 people killed and an estimated additional 391,000 injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers."
Fact: " According to a 2016 State Farm survey, teens who reported using their smartphone while driving were much more likely to report being involved in a crash while driving, and exhibiting other dangerous driving behaviors including speeding, failing to wear a seat belt, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Participation in these other dangerous behaviors was also strongly related to self-reported crash rates."
Fact: " Ten percent of fatal crashes, 15 percent of injury crashes, and 14 percent of all police-reported motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2015 were reported as distraction-affected crashes."
Fact: " The percentage of drivers text messaging or visibly manipulating handheld devices increased from 1.7 percent in 2013 to 2.2 percent in 2014. Since 2007, young drivers (age 16 to 24) have been observed manipulating electronic devices at higher rates than older drivers."
Fact: "Because text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver, it is by far one of the most alarming distractions."
Fact: "In 2015, there were 551 nonoccupants killed in distraction-affected crashes."
Fact: "  At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010."
